A short history of Moroccan hash
Hash-making arrived in Morocco centuries ago along trade routes from the Middle East and Central Asia, but the Rif mountains turned it into an industry. Names like King Hassan and Ketama Gold are commercial labels applied to 00-grade material, not distinct production methods. One honest caveat on the grading itself: sources disagree about where "00" comes from — some say it borrows from Italian flour-milling nomenclature where 00 is the finest grind, others say it refers to a 100-micron mesh.
